I had someone send me a rather derogatory email overnight about yesterday's article. It seems that the person felt it was too " Ma and Pa Kettle " for the site.
That patriotrealm deserved better.
Whilst Redhead swooshed, we gave a few people a laugh. I was told that there were too many serious topics to worry about and the idea of dedicating valuable airtime to a frivolous piece of silliness was below the expected tone of the blog.
When I read this long treatise about how this reader felt so disappointed in me and the gang of volunteers here, I wondered what kind of life he wanted to lead?
After all, a blog is an online diary of sorts.
Not all of us are constantly full of fear.
Forever surrounded by only ever reading about misery, mayhem and helplessness in a world gone mad.
Sometimes, you just have to jump in and have a laugh. A giggle. A smile.
Have some fun.
Yes, it was a silly article.
But over 500 people from all around the world read it and maybe, just maybe, their day and night was a little less stressful for having taken a break from reality.
We here at patriotrealm, take the mickey out of poor Redhead.
Shaydee, her daughter, is relentless in her teasing of her Mum.
Yet never once, has she gotten angry with our articles. So why does a stranger feel the need to intervene?
My cartoons that I create are very questionable at times ...
But only ever with Redhead's permission and with her laughter over the phone.
She loves the cartoons and the small stories that distract from the reality of knowing that she is not the same as she was decades ago.
AND there's nothing wrong with that.
Our older population , our little children, our youngsters; they all need a laugh.
As do we.
Humour has been seemingly banned by those who are so bogged down in the horror that is day to day life that they have forgotten that sometimes, we just need to step back and have some fun.
Or is fun banned too?
It truly saddens me that someone sat down and spent valuable time typing an email, sending it to me and taking a swipe at a piece of fun and then even bothered to hit the " send " button.
We are currently in a terrible place. Globally.
Our electricity prices are rising. Our petrol prices are sky rocketing. Our food prices are beyond scary.
The world is in such a dark place - morally and in terms of security and safety.
The dark clouds of fear are swirling all around us and the sun is being blocked out each and every day in that metaphoric sky that we love and call home.
Our elderly are being abused.
Our children are being abused.
Our rights are being abused.
Our animals are being abused.
And someone feels that it is so important to sit down, write a lengthy email telling me that a little bit of swooshing is too Ma and Pa Kettle to publish?
It's a funny thing really. Old people have a tendency to be much wiser than we realise.
Old people are pretty clever. They adapt as their bodies become less able. Their minds become more alert in the areas that matter. They learn to swoosh.
So here is my parting note to the person who felt that I was denigrating Redhead and my fellow readers.
Older people aren't as dumb as you think.
And never forget...
The old lady handed her bank card to the teller and said “I would like to withdraw $10”.
The teller told her “for withdrawals less than $100, please use the ATM.
The old lady wanted to know why...
The teller returned her bank card and irritably told her “these are the rules, please leave if there is no further matter. There is a line of customers behind you”.
The old lady remained silent for a few seconds and handed her card back to the teller and said “please help me withdraw all the money I have.”
The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance.
She nodded her head, leaned down and respectfully told her “you have $300,000 in your account but the bank doesn’t have that much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come back again tomorrow?
The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to $3000. “Well please let me have $3000 now.” The teller kindly handed $3000 very friendly and with a smile to her. The old lady put $10 in her purse and asked the teller to deposit $2990 back into her account.
The moral of this story is.... Don’t be difficult with old people, they spent a lifetime learning the skill.
And let's be fair - in today's crazy world, Ma and Pa Kettle can even make maths look right!
No, we got these youngin's good and proper..
